PAST NOTES

analog instant messages

you have found my collection of passed notes from the 90s, welcome.

spanning from the beginning of 1995 to junior year of high school in 1998, a note, reproduced verbatim from the original with the exception of all names, is posted to this blog in the order I'd received it. each post contains one note, and a brief narration of the back story as best I can remember it.

there will also be, from time to time, relevant photos, songs, videos, links, objects, quotes, diaries, poems, and other ephemera (all admittedly completely self-indulgent and wince-inducing).

Is this just a straight-up rip off of Cringe or what? Just a land grab for a book deal, one which, you know, already exists?
Ha!
Well, to answer your questions:
1. I hadn’t heard of Cringe until you pointed it out, but, hmm, yeah! They’re similar. (Then again, it’s not the most original idea anyway…) (Oh, edited to add: I see you’re at Crown. Are you Cringe’s editor?)
2. And it’s not a land grab for a book deal. (I already, uh, have one of those. Not to be a jerk or anything.) I’ve just sort of been obsessed with my own teenage years lately and I finally discovered where I’d been hiding all these notes and journals from high school, and I thought it would be fun to put them up.
3. Chill with the cynicism!

I have been obsessed with looking back on my own teenage years a lot too lately. I can hardly forget how short a time ago it feels, and how fast technology has blown up since then. OK It’s been ten+ years, so not that short in the big picture but… so much of it still feels like yesterday. Especially when revisiting these analog things by digitalizing them.
P.S. *This* isn’t a land grab at anything either, we’re a terrible writer. This is just a tumblr and nothing more. This material is faaaar too insignificant to kill any trees over.
